In 2022, Janet and Lindsey set out to create a high school for students like our sons—bright, social, and thriving in their small, innovative K-8 schools—but in tunderwhelmed by the options available at that time -
High-pressure environments of traditional private prep and magnet schools
or the safety and rigor challenges of general public school settings.
After years of research, interviews, networking, planning, and collaboration, we proudly opened Colossal Academy Jacksonville in August 2024.
Our inaugural class includes eight students in grades 7 through 10, guided by three highly qualified teachers, an intentionally crafted curriculum, and the invaluable support of Colossal Academy—a nationally recognized, award-winning micro middle school in Fort Lauderdale.
Every day, our small, yet vibrant school comes alive with happy, engaged students learning and laughing together, just like we dared to imagine.
Lindsey Hebert has been a teacher and therapist for twenty years and we are so grateful to have her as lead teacher for Math and Science at Colossal Academy Jacksonville. She has a Bachelor in Chemistry, a Master of Education in Science, has taught lab science at UNF and currently tutors higher math and science for high school and homeschool students. She also has extensive experience and certifications as a vision therapist, giving her both the science and math content expertise, as well as understanding of how to teach and treat student's who learn/process differently. Lindsey is a beach sunrise chaser and when not working, can be found on the beach and around the beaches, enjoying every moment of beach life.

Janet has been a therapist and school counselor for the last thirty years, in New York City, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Portland, Oregon and for the last 15 years here in Jacksonville Beach. With a bachelor and master degree in social work, a doctorate in educational leadership, and her years working in schools, she has seen the immeasurable impact schools, classrooms and teachers make on children's (and their families) lives. It is a privilege to create a learning environment and opportunities that will prepare young people to be productive, conscientious, citizen leaders and confident, resilient, happy humans with the skills to solve the problems and capitalize on the opportunities of our time. In her free moments, Janet can be found on the beach, or home with her family enjoying Florida outdoor living.
